statement
as a child, I once drew a singular raindrop that filled the entire page, abstract and sketched in pencil. When my mother asked, “Marika, what did you draw?” I responded simply, “Rain.” As if it wasn’t obvious, I must have thought.
from an early age, art became my way of expressing what words couldn’t capture. in some works, I have used words as a way to expand the concept that art is solely composed of imagery, leaving fragments of what the meaning may be. even when creating a new piece, my choice of medium is usually more than just paint, at times. my approach involves multiple mediums; acrylic and oil medium, acrylic markers, charcoal, pen, ink, dried roses, crushed shells, metal wires - depends on what speaks to me.
